SEOUL, June 24 (Yonhap) --"The concept of this album is 'I'm not dead'. I can't be an idol in their 20s, but when people who remember me see me, I want them to think 'She’s alright' "

Chae Eun-jung, who was in the group CLEO in the 2000s, returned as a solo singer.

“Regardless of the rankings and appearing on music shows, I’m just happy that a new album has been released,” said Chae Eun-jung in a showcase commemorating the release of the mini-album “WHI HU HU HU” held in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul on Thursday.

“WHI HU HU HU” is Chae Eun-jung's first solo album in 13 years.

Chae Eun-jung, who was active as the solo singer “Angel,” and left the entertainment industry to work as a medical tourism coordinator, also worked as a Pilates instructor. The last album she released under her own name was “I Miss You” in 2009.

“Because I started out as a singer, there was a lot of confusion about my identity like ‘what am I doing?” Chae Eun-jung said. “Even if people said bad things about me, I wanted to try again, and so I did it.”

The title song “WHI HU HU HU” is about seducing a man one likes in their own way.

Park Seong-ho, a member and producer of Goofy, who was active in the late 1990s, composed the song, while Joomin, the leader of Bijou participated in the lyrics.

The album also includes the song “MBTI” with lyrics that compare the feelings of love to the personality type test (MBTI), and “Touch” that enhances Chae Eun-jung's vocals with a disco sound from the 1970s.

“While preparing for the album, I thought a lot about the genre of the songs that I wanted to show. Many people suggested Semi-trot, but I have an embarrassing history (of being eliminated) in ‘Miss Trot 2’,” she laughed.

As she had a long hiatus, Chae Eun-jung looked nervous.

“When we were young, the system wasn’t like this, so it’s literally my first time on a ‘showcase,’. It’s an old song but I’ll be singing this song to show where I’m from,” she said and sang CLEO’s hit song “Good Time.”

“My heart feels warm and I feel like I could cry as if I’m the one who made a comeback,” said Joomin from Bijou, who attended the event. “I just want to give a big round of applause to Chae Eun-jung from her sense of singing to her passionate passion.”
