Son Heung-min back on Tottenham training with bright smile

SEOUL, July 20 (Yonhap) -- Son Heung-min(29), the captain of South Korea national football team, is joining for preseason training in his club in England, Tottenham Hotspur, one of the professional football clubs of the Premier League and in which Son plays as a forward.

Tottenham showed the fans video clips of Son returning to the team's training via its official Twitter page on the 20th(Korea time).

The club is told to have started its preseason schedules earlier this month, but the forward, who had been assigned to group A for FIFA World Cup Qatar second preliminaries, participated 3 matches and took some rest before the return. 

Son persuaded the team into letting him participate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic however was turned down as Kim Hak-bum, the coach for South Korea national football team, did not include Son due to injury concerns. As a result, Son is preparing for the new season in Hotspur. 

He lit up the air around him at his first training session with the team. 

Tottenham revealed a video of Son's training on that day, in which he was high-fiving a fellow member with a bright smile across his face and making a funny 'hula dance' with Lucas Moura, a Brazilian player. 

Now that Son Heung-min who achieved 'career high' by scoring 22 goals and making 17 assists in his 51 matches during 2020-2021 season officials, whether this versatile player would renew his contract with Tottenham became a huge issue. 

Media in England has been reporting that Tottenham is negotiating with Son for renewal, but the discussion seems to be still ongoing. His contract will expire on June, 2023. 


Recently, there are words coming out about the renewal.

Football Insider, a British football site, told that Son has showed coach Nuno Espírito Santo, the new supervisor, his intent to remain and that he would sign for a blockbuster-scale contract with the club. 

The media quoted from its source that Son is likely to receive more than 200 thousand pound(approximately 316million won) per week. 


However, coach Santo said that he has not yet made a direct conversation with Son about the matter at a press conference on the 18th, adding "Son will join us soon." and "Then we will have a chance to talk."
