Kukkiwon, to adopt 'formal dress' for taekwondo highest master award ceremony starting from the 20th

SEOUL, Oct. 14 (Yonhap) -- Kukkiwon, also known as World Taekwondo Headquarter, will adopt a formal dress to enhance the dignity of the 9 dan (the highest master) award ceremony.

They will first present the newly designed dress at the 2021 2nd the highest master (9 dan) award ceremony to be held at their main training space in Gangnam district Seoul at 11 a.m. of the 20th, according to Kukkiwon Thursday.

The dress created by the global hanbok designer, Mok Eun-jung, came out in 3 types – for the president, vice president and the winner of the 9 dan.

The design consisting of pictograms based on the taeguk mark added to Korea’s traditional patterns and taekwondo movements and Kukkiwon’s image are notable.

The association has been attempted various research and businesses to invent formal dress, taekwondo uniforms for 2009 but couldn’t carry them out. They have decided to gradual implication of formal dresses starting with the upcoming one.

They have made improvements to the way of practicing 8, 9 dan evaluation.

Reinforcing pre-education on test day, the applicants have to complete 10 hours of education including 6 hours of poomsae for two days, 2 hours of self-defense martial arts and 2 hours of martial arts philosophy.
