Sales of golf industry to increase 18 percent regardless of Covid-19

SEOUL, June 21 (Yonhap) – Golf industry increased their size in average of 18 percent regardless of the pandemic, said BC card on Tuesday after analyzing the sales data collected for 3 years starting on June 2019 to May 2022.

Compared to 17.3 percent and 15.9 percent increase in golf courses and driving ranges drastic increase of 32.8 percent was shown in screen golf through the average annual sales of the golf industry.

BC card analyzed the situation by stating “Sales of screen golf increased regardless of weekdays or weekends” adding “It seems that lifting the social distancing and popularization of golf has lead numerous dinner meeting to be held at screen golf parlor.” Moreover, the age group of people who enjoy golfing has diversified.

Based on the data collected from June 2019 to May 2020, 75 percent of the accounted sales related to golf were made to those in their 50s and 60s, whereas only 5.8 percent of sales were accounted amongst 20s and 30s.

However, starting on June 2021 the sales portion of 50s and 60s decreased down to 67.8 percent whereas 9.2 percent increase was shown in age 20s and 30s.

"Increased in sales among 20s and 30s demonstrates the interest of younger generation in golf." BC card explained.
