SEOUL, Jan. 12 (Yonhap) -- "Sing Again 2," which returned to its second season in a year, is still drawing attention.

JTBC’s music competition program “Sing Again 2” ranked No. 5 in the overall category and No. 2 in the entertainment category, according to Contents Power Index(CPI) of the 5th week of December, 2021 (Dec. 27, 2021 ~ Jan. 2, 2022), released by CJ ENM on Jan. 12. The CPI recorded 246.5.

The ratings of "Sing Again 2," which started airing on Dec. 6, exceeded 5% on the first episode and recorded 8% in just 5 episodes. In the CPI rankings, the program remained around 5th place for 3 weeks in a row since the third week of December, 2021.

"Sing Again," which is designed to give opportunities to singers who are desperate to be back on the stage, drew attention by discovering singers with hidden talents, such as Lee Seung-yoon, Jeong Hong-il, and Lee Mu-jin, from season 1.

In Season 2, singer No. 39 who debuted 41 years ago, No. 63 who misses being on the stage in a situation where he could not perform due to COVID-19, and No.57, an idol group member who wants to overcome difficulties caused by vocal cord surgery, are in the spotlight again.

Particularly, a singer No.39, a member of the group Baettaragi who is well known for the song “Daddy and Crayons,” moved the audience by having a collaboration stage with a singer No. 64, the youngest participant, and cheering his competitor saying, “The sprout needs to grow.”

There was also a controversy. Criticism arose over the appearance of a singer No.30, who attracted the judges with his heavy voice, after his past drunk driving incident was revealed.

after it was revealed that No. 30, who captivated the judges with a heavy voice, caused a stir for drunk driving in the past.

Nevertheless, "Sing Again 2" seems to have found stability overall compared to the previous season. It is evaluated to be the result of creating characters by pointing out unique characteristics of each participant.

A singer No.39 with clear voice was named “Girl Sensitivity,” the youngest participant was called “Official daughter of Sing Again 2,” and No.37, who has a similar face shape as the singer Kim Beom-soo, was called “Face of the king.”

Moreover, the point where the program made participants who shared team missions compete with one another through “rival matches” and raised interests and tension is also analyzed to be one of the popular factors.

In addition, the program opened a separate YouTube channel called "Sing Again Full Release," and unveiled the highlights of the participants’ performances and unaired clips to continue the excitement of the program online as well.

Meanwhile, MBC TV’s drama "The Red Sleeve," which ended in popularity, has ranked No.1 in the CPI of the fifth week of last month.

☞ Contents Power Index or CPI is an indicator on viewers' behavior based on direct searches, news subscriptions, and social media buzz.
