SEOUL, May 12 (Yonhap) -- The "Gijisi Juldarigi Festival," based on the Gijisi Juldarigi (National Intangible Cultural Heritage No.75), a traditional culture with a 500-year history handed down from Gijisi-ri, Songak-eup, Dangjin city, which prays for abundance and peace for the year, is being held on the 13th till the 15th for the first time in three years since COVID-19.

As the Gijisi Juldarigi (tug-of-war) was made to overcome the local disaster through the harmony of the community, this year's theme is "Healing and Restoration to daily life."

On the 13th, other ceremonies including dangje (ritual to pray for the well-being and prosperity of the village community) and yongwangje (ritual for the mythic Sea Dragon King) will be held, while on the 14th, concerts, fireworks and the showcase of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage will be held at 7 p.m. on the 14th.

On the last day, the 15th, the main juldarigi event in which local residents and tourists participate together will be held.

Competitions of juldarigi will be held on this day, according to weight and class. Competition of men and women will also be held separately.

A program in which tourists will be able to experience and enjoy the juldarigi in costumes from the Netflix show "Squid Game" is arranged as well.

As per the government's quarantine guidelines, masks must be used as it is an outdoor program with more than 50 people.
