SEOUL, May 12 (Yonhap) -- The city of Changwon, Gyeongnam announced that it would temporarily open the Masan Marine New Town.

This is the first time being opened in 20 years since the Masan Marine New Town development administrative plan was established in 2003.

As the city recently completed the construction of a 3.2 km shore promenade around the outskirts of Masan Maritime New Town, it decided to temporarily open it to the public.

For this, the city has also received permission from the Urban Planning Division and the Masan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries.

During the temporary opening period, one will be able to enjoy looking at the canola field and a green barley field on an area of 110,000m2.

As it is the season of flowers to bloom, the city is considering to open all sections of the trail during this month, and to open only some sections of the trail (Seohang 1 Bridge ~ Pedestrian Bridge) from next month.

The city also plans to pay special attention for the safety as except for the trails, the city is still under construction (completion rate of 85%).

"We plan to open the promenade along with the flower fields to the citizens who has been waiting for 20 years," said Lee Jong-geun, director of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. "I hope that it will serve as an opportunity to recharge people's daily lives who are all exhausted from COVID-19.”
