SEOUL, Oct. 12 (Yonhap) -- Going against the global trend, North Korea has evaluated totally negatively against South Korea’s Netflix original series “Squid Game,” a recent global mega-hit production, saying that it is an exposure of South Korean and capitalist society’s harsh reality.

“Recently, a TV series ‘Squid Game’ revealing the true face of the South Korean society, a jungle corrupted in every single corner and where immortal acts are commonplace, is gaining popularity,” reported North Korea’s media “Echo” Tuesday.

“Its popularity stems from its realistic demonstration of the South Korean and capitalist society where extreme competitions for survival prevail and the strong eat off the weak,” claimed the media.

Although ‘Squid Game’ is being loved worldwide sweeping top ranks in 83 countries Netflix is servicing for, the media only focused on criticizing the Southern society without mentioning any of its amazing accomplishments.

They described the drama’s contents of the economically broke participants surviving through games to become the last one to win the prize money, as “Beastly South Korean society where people are shoved into extreme competitions and humanity gets obliterated in the process.”

“Especially, the rich enjoying the cruel slaughtering throughout the survival games they created in which those who aren’t 1st places must die, stirs an outrage against the unequal society,” added the media.

Moreover, the watchers’ impressions of the series, the media revealed, were centered on criticizing the South such as “Losers increasing from intense competitions – this is the South Korean society today,” and “I curse the reality that people have to live in places where they are all rated by money.”
