SEOUL, Dec. 6 (Yonhap) -- “It feels so happy like receiving all the praises I can ever get during a lifetime in just one go.”

Actress Kim Shin-rock (40) has recently gained fame with her impressively memorable character in Netflix original series “Hellbound.” During an online interview Monday, she shared her feelings about receiving such immense attention from the public.

The actress responded humbly.

“People may be feeling the happiness of discovery as I am the least known actress among the cast in ‘Hellbound.’”

Kim played Park Jung-ja, mother of two children, who decides to accept cult, “New Truth”’s financial offer for her children and, in exchange, to broadcast live the moment of her getting dragged to hell. She left a strong impression to the watchers depicting desperate maternal love to protect her children and a human’s extreme fear when driven to the very edge of life.

“My husband is an actor too and after watching the series, he told me it was the best acting of my whole career. I felt proud,” said Kim who didn’t expect that Park Jung-ja would receive this much spotlight.

“I thought that as the character is a mother who receives a decree to hell and dies, it would just arouse sympathy and can do nothing more. So to make the character not seem too simple or fragmentary, I tried to act a human who tries to protect what she has to, rather than just an abstract maternal love. I tried to more specifically understand the dilemma the character might have as a human.”

She especially emphasized that she wanted to portray an expression or an atmosphere of someone newly born or something to newly start again in the last scene.

“I was very excited as it was a wide-opening to the drama’s world and I could give an impact as an actor as well,” said Kim about the final part which shocked the watchers.

Kim has surprised the public as she is known to have graduated the Department of Geography of Seoul University, Korea’s one of the most prestigious universities.

“I decided to be an actress when I performed in an acting club in the College of Social Sciences back in my college days,” said Kim.

The actress who mostly performed in plays started appearing in media platforms starting from drama “The Cursed” in 2020. Since then she has took part in JTBC series “Beyond Evil,” Netflix series “Hellbound” and Coupang Play’s “One Ordinary Day.”

“This year is like the beginning of the 2nd chapter of my life. My goal is to be an actress who can cover from dramatic stories to ordinary and everyday-life stories.”
