Fantasy adventure movie 'The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure' to release this month

SEOUL, Jan. 13 (Yonhap) -- "The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure," a fantasy adventure movie of the pirates who go on a journey to discover the treasure of Goryeo kingdom in the early days of the Joseon Dynasty, will be released in the theater this month. 

 

The movie is a sequel to "The Pirates(2014),” which gathered over 8.66 million viewers with the story of a group of bandits fighting to catch a grey whale that has swallowed a royal stamp, but it narrates a completely different story with new characters.

Director Kim Jeong-hoon, who presented comedy movies "Petty Romance" and "The Accidental Detective,” directed the movie.

 

Moo-chi(Kang Ha-neul), a head of the bandits who was drifting in the sea after being chased by the royal forces, saved his life thanks to Hae-rang(Han Hyo-joo), and goes out to find the treasure that he heard from the Japanese pirates.

During this process, the movie depicts the story of the traitor Bu Heung-soo(Kwon Sang-woo), who has a deep relationship with Moo-chi, Mak-yi(Lee Kwang-soo), who aims for the owner position but clumsy, and Han-goong(Oh Se-hun), who is loyal to Hae-rang.

The movie is full of mysterious and wizardly elements like “Pirates of the Caribbean” of Hollywood. Computer Graphics(CG) and Visual Effects(VFX) were used to complete the outstanding visual arts, including the scene where a group of pirates riding strong currents of the sea and crossing across jellyfish and fish.

The action scenes of the actors, such as the sword fight between Moo-chi and his rival Bu Heung-soo, are also realistic.

To be released on Jan. 26. 126 minutes. A 12 rated movie.
