MIRYANG, Nov. 18 (Yonhap) -- Miryang City in South Gyeongsang Province, also known as the “city of yoga,” will hold the 4th “Miryang International Yoga Competition” on November 20th, the city announced Thursday.

This year’s theme is the meeting of yoga and health with art and culture.

Through video judgment, out of the 54 applicants, 24 teams will advance to the next stage.

Foreign teams applied for the 1st and 2nd competitions but due to the spread of the COVID-19 infection, only Korean teams applied for the last and this year’s events.

Offline audiences are not allowed due to the pandemic, but the competition will be broadcasted live on YouTube. Votes from the online watchers will be included in the evaluation as well.

Yoga, physical, mental and spiritual practices that originated from India, has become Miryang City’s specialized industry.

The city is the first local region in Korea to hold various yoga events such as the International Yoga Conference and the International Yoga Competition.

It also promotes yoga as their new tour contents by collaborating with the Indian Government and WHO (World Health Organization).
