Korean left-handed pitcher Kim Kwang-hyun of the St. Louis Cardinals in the U.S. Major League Baseball will start against the New York Mets at 8:45 a.m. on the 6th (KST) at Bush Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.

Initially, Kim was expected to take the mound against the Mets on Saturday.

However, St. Louis announced in a game note on Tuesday that "Johan Oviedo will be selected against the Mets on the 5th."

Oviedo was excluded from the roster (26 players) after taking the mound against the Philadelphia Phillies on the 29th of last month.

He can only return after 10 days, but he will return to the big league before filling 10 days under the clause that "if there is a player on the injured list (IL) in the team, a replacement player can return early.

St. Louis is expected to put Jordan Hicks on the IL soon after feeling elbow pain.

Oviedo returned earlier than expected and took over the starting position, giving St. Louis starters, including Kim Kwang-hyun, an additional day's rest.

As a result, Kim Kwang-hyun, who pitched well against Philadelphia on April 30 with seven hits and one run in five innings, will take five days off and take the mound on April 6.

If Kim Kwang-hyun had taken the mound on the 5th as originally scheduled, he could have taken turns with pitcher Jacob Digrom, who represents the Big League.

Marcus Stroman, who will face Kim Kwang-hyun, was selected to the 2019 All-Star as a special pitcher with a 3.86 win, 2 loss, and a 1.86 ERA this season.

This is the first time Kim Kwang-hyun has met with the Mets in the regular season since joining the Major League.

The Mets ranks 11th out of 15 National League teams with a team OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) of 0.686.

Kim has one win and an ERA of 3.29 in the previous three games.

Kim Kwang-hyun aims to achieve 1,500 strikeouts in his career between South Korea and the U.S. with two wins this season. Kim Kwang-hyun, who struck out 1,456 in the KBO League, added 40 more in the big league.

St. Louis announced in the game note that "Kim Kwang-hyun will strike out 1,500 if he adds four strikeouts."
