SEOUL, May 4 (Yonhap) -- Lim Sung-jae (23) will win the Wells Fargo Championship (total 8.1 million dollars) from the U.S. PGA Tour for the first time of the season and strive for two wins in his career.

Lim Sung-jae will participate in the PGA Tour Wells Fargo Championship, which will be held at Quail Hollow Club (Par 71, 7,521 yards) in Charlotte, North Carolina, for four days starting from the 7th (KST).

Quail Hollow is scheduled to host the Presidents Cup, a match between the United States and the International Team in September 2022.

Lim Sung-jae once represented the international team with An Byeong-hun (30) at the 2019  Presidents Cup in Australia. Choi Kyung-ju (51), was the deputy head of the international team at the time.

Lim Sung-jae was tied for sixth place until the second round of the Valspar Championship, the previous tournament, but slowed down from the third round and ended up tying for 29th place.

Lim Sung-jae, who has not won an additional title since his debut in The Honda Classic last year, expects to rebound in this tournament.

Choi Kyung-ju and An Byeong-hun will also participate in the tournament. Kang Sung-hoon (34), Lee Kyoung-hoon (30), and Roh Seung-yeol (30) also announced their participation.

The most anticipated players are Max Homa from the U.S. and Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland.

Homa won his first title at the event in 2019. Since last year's competition was not held due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), he will enter the competition as a "defending champion" this year.

"Homa has been on a good track, winning his second career at The Genesis Invitational in February and tying at sixth place at the recent Valspar Championship."

Homa is drawing attention to whether he will become the first Wells Fargo Championship player to succeed in defending the title.

McIlroy will compete for the first time since the Masters Tournament in April. McIlroy is the only player to record multiple wins at the Wells Fargo Championship, and winning in 2010 and 2015, setting course records (62 strokes in the fourth round and 61 strokes in the third round), respectively.

In addition, top rankers such as Justin Thomas (USA), Jon Rahm (Spain), No. 4 Xander Schauffele (USA), and Bryson DeChambeau (USA) are seeking for the championship.

James Hahn (US), a Korean-American who received his second PGA Tour trophy in 2016, will also participate.

A player who is good at handling holes 16-18 of the Quail Hollow Club is likely to be the winner. These holes are named after Stephen King's book, "The Green Mile," which is also a prison term for the final walk to the death row, meaning the three holes are designed to be extremely difficult.

The tournament allows spectators to enter, but only sells 30% of the entire tickets due to social distancing for COVID-19.
